The Western Cape province is situated in the south-western part of South Africa. It is the fourth largest province of the Republic of South Africa. The province stretches along the Atlantic coast in the north and eastwards along the Indian Ocean. The province is boarded on the North by the Northern Cape and on the East by the Eastern Cape. The total land of the province is 129 462 square kilometers.
The population size of the province is approximately made up of 6 116 300 people. The population of the province is sub-divided into 48.8 percent Coloured people, 32.8 percent of Black Africans, 17.3 percent of White and 1 percent of Indians. Afrikaans is the widely spoken language in the province with 49.6 percent people speaking the language, followed by IsiXhosa with 24.7 percent of the people speaking the language and 20.2 English speaking people.
The province houses the Parliament of South Africa in its capital city, Cape Town. The most popular landmarks in the province are the Table Mountain and Robben Island. These landmarks are the popular tourist attractions for the province.
Other towns which are found in this province are Stellenbosch, Worcester, Paarl and George.
There is one metropolitan municipality, which is the City of Cape Town, five district municipalities and 24 local municipalities. The districts are the West Coast, Cape Winelands, Overberg, Eden and the Central Karoo.
