IDT Staff get empowered to deliver Municipal LED Programmes

Twenty IDT Staff members graduated with a certificate in Local Economic Development Management on 25 October 2009.  The graduation ceremony was held at SunnyPark Hotel in Parktown Johannesburg. These staff members are responsible for delivery capacity in the Local Economic Development area at the IDT.

 

The LED qualification is a customized programme for the IDT, which took into consideration the IDT knowledge, skills, expertise and experiences on LED Management. Wits Graduate School of Public and Development and the IDT signed a Memorandum of Understanding that was meant to tailor make this programme according to the needs of IDT.  The graduands will have expertise on formulating Municipal LED strategies, management of the LED strategies and setting-up of support processes for the planning, implementation and management  of LED related processes.  The programme is fully accredited by South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) and it is pitched at Honours level (level 7 according to NQF)  with credits towards a Masters Degree.


The Local Economic Development facilitation was identified as one of the Key Performance Areas (KPA) in the Integrated Sustainable Rural Development Programme (ISRDP) refocusing process.

 
Besides the graduation certificates, some of the graduands were recognised for their outstanding abilities and received special awards.  Recipients of these awards were:


Best Interactive student: Mr Lonwabo Maka

Best Student: Ms Babhekile Mngoma

Best Group: Royal Nguni
