IDT, NEF & SACE CONTRACTOR DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME PARTNERSHIP LAUNCH

The IDT Contractor Development Programme partnership was launched on 13 November 2009 at the Sheraton Hotel in Pretoria.
The Contractor Development Programme (CDP) is a joint initiative between the Independent Development Trust (IDT), National Empowerment Fund (NEF) and Siseko se-Afrika Consulting Enterprise (SACE).  This joint venture will contribute towards the upliftment and empowerment of disadvantaged communities by providing opportunities to emerging contractors in the Building and Construction Industries.

CDP emphasises the development of emerging contractors with special focus on contractors with Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) grading 1-5. The end result of the CDP is the creation of a pool of capable, sustainable, self sufficient and highly skilled contractors able to compete with the best in infrastructure development sector.

The roles of the partners are defined as:
•    IDT will secure and award projects to qualifying contractors;
•    NEF will provide a loan facility for the working capital requirements to qualifying contractors who participate in the CDP;
•    SACE will provide management services in the form of technical training and mentorship to the qualifying contractors.

The CEO of the IDT, Ms Thembi Nwedamutswu in her address at the CDP Launch stated that ” when we planned the Contractor Development Programme to grow the cadre of sustainable emerging enterprises, we realised it was not enough to open opportunities for the contractors. In order to make sustainable and measurable difference, we had to simultaneously address the realities such as the lack of capital, limited technical capacity and business management proficiency.”
